Jorge R Canedo Estrada YG12

  • Current Location: Vancouver, Canada
  • Studio: Giant Ant

Born in Bolivia in 1990, Jorge a.k.a. "Jr.canest" is fascinated by different art forms, technology, society and loves music and hanging out with his wife and son. He always tries to understand how things work. He uses that curiosity to do what he loves, Motion Design. After the camera became one of his and his brother’s favorite toys, he discovered the world of digital design and he started to learn by himself. At the age of 17, he won a full Scholarship to Vancouver Film School and is now a graduate from the VFS Digital Design program. He is constantly looking to gain more experience in his field and constantly being amazed by incredible animation, art, design or something completely different. He is a strong believer in audio-driven animation and that all he has is only because of God’s grace; he loves good design; and he will spend hours walking or riding his bike outside in the rain, creating stuff at Giant Ant or creating the perfect curve of animation.

    Being A Dad

Animography.net approached me with a pretty cool idea again, the last being Franchise animated (vimeo.com/70470864). This time it was a free canvas, with the only requirement to use one of the typefaces on the site. I was honored to be the first one to do Animography Monthly! But it was a crazy December for me and I was running out of time, so I had to give myself a few restraints: Had to be done 1 day, Had to fit the style of the Isotype font. (designed by Ryan Locke), Had to somehow tell the story of being a dad or becoming one (since our son/daughter will be coming to this world in a few months) So "Being A Dad" was born, an animated experiment on the weird, but awesome blessing of being a dad.

    Resonance: The Interpreter’s House

Resonance was the vision of SR Partners; a collaborative project with over 30 independent visual and audio designers / studios. The aim was to explore the relationship between geometry and audio in unique ways. Animators and Audio Designers were paired up at the beginning of the project and were given the guidelines to create a piece between 12 and 20, I had the awesome opportunity to work with David Kamp. This piece is my approach to the connection between audio and shapes, I tried to give this abstract animation a certain type of emotion, that every movement happening on screen would be more than the sole purpose of look cool and sync to the sound, to do this I based this video on a section of John Bunyan's "The Pilgrim's Progress", when Christian is guided through the Interpreters House.
