Grilli Type YG13

  • Current Location: Zürich, Switzerland

Grilli Type, founded in 2009, is an independent Swiss type foundry by Noël Leu and Thierry Blancpain. While we are based in Zürich, Switzerland, we offer retail and custom typefaces as well as wordmarks to customers from all over the world. Our customers range from an artisanal butcher in Australia, a specialist coffee roaster in China, and the Swiss government, to commercial organizations like GQ Magazine, Google, New York City’s promotional organization NYC & Company, and agencies like Sid Lee, Wolff Olins, and Arnold Worldwide. With our background in graphic design, we differentiate ourselves by a very active, visual approach to the promotion of our typefaces.

    Poster 1

We created a series of posters to promote our released and upcoming typefaces. This is the poster for GT Federation. As the typeface lives between American gothic and Swiss grotesque typefaces—think Franklin Gothic and Helvetica—, we of course had to create a new Swiss-American flag.

    Poster 2

We created a series of posters to promote our released and upcoming typefaces. This is the poster for GT Cinetype. The design is based on the typeface’s origins in cinema subtitling and the mechanical world of 35mm movie projectors.

  • Project 3 of 4

    poster 3

We created a series of posters to promote our released and upcoming typefaces. This is the poster for GT Super. To show off its support for the Cyrillic alphabet, this “A is for Apple” type poster creates a Russia-inspired visual world, including the KGB logo and Pussy Riot.

    poster 4

We created last year’s design for the poster festival Weltformat (literally translated as “world format”, a Swiss poster size) taking place in Lucerne, Switzerland. Inspired by poisonous gases atop a Japanese volcano, this psychedelic design features childhood favorites from all around the world.
