"Come a day there won't be room for naughty men like us to slip about at all. This job goes south, there well may not be another. So here is us, on the raggedy edge."

When F5 commissioned us to do a short film conveying happiness, we thought what better way to express our happiness than to distill the essence of our craft, to serve up a creamy shot of artistic espresso? So with this film, we’ve gone back to the basics, the simplest of inanimate objects, and transformed them into a tapestry of playful, choreographed dance for your enjoyment.

We were honored when Showtime commissioned us to create this film, as part of their SHOrt Stories film series. With “Music Box,” we wanted to create a film that turns the traditional process of music video making on its head. Rather than starting with a song and making a video to accompany it, we wanted both the music and the visuals to evolve together organically. So we partnered up with our favorite musical coffee-drinkers, Huma-Huma, locked ourselves in a really hot studio space in Brooklyn, rented a humungous projector, and proceeded to bang on things for about a week. This is what came out.

Inspired by Yeasayer’s polyphonic harmony and tribal sound, this video follows migrating beetles, cosmic apple orbits, and primal spirits through the cycles of the planets and seasons.

Set deep in a verdant jungle on a dark night, “Touch Me I’m Going To Scream Pt. 2” stars a furry, timid creature with gigantic eyes. Mixtape Club drew from an array of inspirations such as the BBC’s “Planet Earth”, foliage plucked from the streets of New York City, and the work of Russian animator Yuri Norstein. The jungle world was built entirely from elements painted digitally. The finished product is a haunting, seemingly hand-painted, lonely story with a touch of fairy tale sweetness.
